News > Emergency Management: European Dialogue on Risks and Urban Resilience Held in Venice

The Metropolitan City of Venice (Città Metropolitana di Venezia) held a technical seminar yesterday, February 4, 2026, dedicated to expert dialogue among entities researching and developing innovative solutions for emergency management during catastrophic events.
During the meeting, the European Union Horizon projects EXTRACT EU Project and AGILE presented methodologies and results, focusing on identifying urban vulnerabilities and defining advanced tools to address high-impact, low-probability events.
Hosted at Ca’ Corner, the morning session proceeded along two parallel tracks: EXTRACT, which featured a test and validation session for the P.E.R. (Personalized Evacuation Route) app; and AGILE, which conducted a workshop dedicated to analyzing vulnerabilities and critical nodes across the metropolitan region during rare, high-impact events. Coordinated by the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC), the workshop engaged key stakeholders and facilitators, including SAVE, The Human Safety Net, Consorzio di Bonifica Veneto Orientale, DELTAMED, Euroservis, Pax Tibi, and the National Union of Disabled Service Personnel and Veterans (UNMS).
In the afternoon, a technical roundtable convened at the Auditorium of the Procuratie Vecchie, bringing together project representatives, morning participants, and international contributors – including the Barcelona Supercomputing Center – to consolidate findings and explore potential applications within the metropolitan context. On this occasion, Director General Alessandro Costa presented VSF, highlighting Venice’s role as a Resilience Hub within UNDRR's global MCR2030 initiative, which unites cities and institutions dedicated to strengthening risk prevention and response capabilities.
In his address, Alessandro Costa cited the MOSE system as a concrete example of an applied regional solution: “One of the reasons Venice was chosen as a resilience hub is the operation of the MOSE system, a best practice to share with other geographic contexts facing similar challenges.”
