News > Sustainable Finance and ESG Risk Management: Working Group Hosted by VSF in Mestre

As part of the "Sustainable finance" Cross-Cutting Project, Venice Sustainability Foundation (VSF) hosted the "Sustainable Finance and ESG Risk Management" working group today, July 17, at the Confindustria Veneto headquarters in Mestre.

Coordinated by Andrea Giacomelli, Professor of ESG Risk Management at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, the meeting brought together VSF members alongside representatives from the business, banking, and insurance sectors to explore the local challenges and development prospects of sustainable finance.

Participants included the Venice Rovigo Chamber of Commerce, Confartigianato Veneto, Confindustria Veneto, Fincantieri, and UniCredit, who contributed to an open dialogue aimed at sharing best practices and strengthening ESG culture across the region.

During the session, experts outlined the new European regulatory framework, paying particular attention to the European Banking Authority (EBA) guidelines on credit risk monitoring. Discussions also focused on financial materiality, the opportunities and critical issues surrounding insurance coverage for catastrophic risks, and the potential of Veneto companies to launch supply chain initiatives that improve access to sustainable finance instruments.

This initiative reinforces VSF's role in advancing sustainable finance tools that integrate ESG risk assessment and management directly into economic and industrial decision-making. The active involvement of members and key local stakeholders marks a concrete step toward building strategies that boost competitiveness while fostering economic and environmental resilience across the region.
