News > Sustainable Tourism and Culture: VSF at the Forum Economia Pulita

On May 29, Venice Sustainability Foundation took part in the Modena leg of the 6th edition of Economia Pulita – Forum Città d’arte e Cultura, a series of meetings bringing together institutions, universities, experts, and businesses to discuss sustainable economic growth.

Hosted by the Modena Chamber of Commerce and organized by Economia Pulita s.r.l., the event focused on new tourism trajectories in medium-sized art cities and the role of culture as a driver of economic development and social cohesion.

During the afternoon session “Cultural Events and Sustainability,” Damiano De Marchi, VSF project manager for Sustainable tourism, presented the case of Intelligent Venice.

The exhibition, organized by the Foundation as a special project for Biennale Architettura 2025, was highlighted as a cultural initiative that interprets the relationship between city, environment, and community. It traces Venice's thousand-year history – built on medieval innovations, contemporary technologies, human interventions in nature, and survival strategies that have allowed the city to thrive in a challenging environment.

The presentation underscored how cultural events can help develop more responsible tourism models that balance destination appeal, territorial protection, and quality of life for local communities.
