News > Urban Resilience and Crisis Management: Venice Hosts First Edition of F3D, Side Event of VSF's Sustainability Biennale 2025

On Friday, October 3, the headquarters of the Metropolitan City of Venice at Ca’ Corner hosted the first of the two-day event “F3D – The First Three Days – The First Extract – Urban Resilience in Times of Crisis,” an international initiative dedicated to the crucial role citizens and technologies play during the initial 72 hours following a major emergency. In its debut edition, Feel Community promoted the event alongside the EXTRACT EU Project and the Metropolitan City of Venice, and it was included in the side events program of VSF’s Sustainability Biennale 2025.

The initiative kicked off with an expert panel and a civic hackathon focused on the challenges posed by natural, health, technological, or hybrid-threat crises, as well as the actionable solutions that can be deployed immediately after an event.

The key protagonists of the day were students from the “Andrea Gritti” Upper Secondary Institute in Venice, who engaged in the co-design of solutions across four key areas: citizen engagement; evacuation and shelter management; biological risks and access to food and drinking water; and critical infrastructure and cyber threats. The proposed solutions were subsequently presented, voted on, and awarded during the international summit on the following day.

During the expert panel session, Silvia Oliva, VSF’s Project Activities Coordinator, shared the Foundation’s experience within the framework of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Making Cities Resilient program. In its role as a resilience hub, Venice is actively engaged in promoting actions, meetings, and interventions to strengthen urban capabilities to prevent, mitigate, and manage the impact of catastrophic events, with a strong focus on protecting cultural heritage and the local community.

The initiative was promoted and organized by Feel together with the EXTRACT EU Project, under the High Patronage of the European Parliament and with the patronage of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces, the Veneto Region, the Metropolitan City of Venice, and the Municipality of Venice. Additional support was provided by UNMS (National Union of Disabled Service Members), Confapi Veneto, Digital Value S.p.A., and ATVO Spa (Eastern Veneto Transport Company).
