News > Urban Sustainability: Venice as a Laboratory for the Future

Venice Sustainability Foundation (VSF) has published the second volume of its Quaderni VSF series, fully dedicated to the Integrated Urban Sustainability Scenario for Venice and its surrounding territory. The issue compiles and analyzes findings from a 2024 survey of the Foundation's members, highlighting visions, strategic priorities, and operational proposals to chart a shared path toward a more sustainable city.

The survey reveals a clear, unified vision of Venice as a pioneering laboratory for sustainability, where the ecological transition, economic development, and social cohesion must merge into integrated strategies and systemic actions. The identified priorities range from sustainable tourism management to the revitalization of Porto Marghera, and from protecting the Lagoon to strengthening local residential housing.

With this new publication, VSF advances its "Target Scenario for Integrated Urban Sustainability" project—a framework designed to support members' initiatives and drive a sustainable development model for Venice, its metropolitan area, and the broader Veneto region.

Furthermore, the survey results presented in the volume strengthen the VSF Sustainability Observatory's knowledge base, benefiting from members' commitment to sharing data, models, and analytical methodologies.
