News > VSF Brings Sustainability into Classrooms to Envision the Future of the Lagoon Together
On March 26, a new in-depth session took place with two classes from the Francesco Algarotti Higher Education Institute (Istituto di Istruzione Superiore Francesco Algarotti). The meeting is part of a civic education program dedicated to preserving biodiversity in the Venice Lagoon, promoted by Venice Sustainability Foundation alongside Fondazione Vittorio Occorsio E.T.S.
At the core of the lesson was a concrete case study in urban management: coexisting with the European herring gull in Venice. Dr. Francesca Coccon presented students with the findings of a study conducted by CORILA, supported by Gruppo Veritas and the Municipality of Venice, focusing on an integrated ecosystem management approach for the species.
Building on these insights, the students will design city tourist itineraries that account for the presence of gulls and their potential interactions with visitors, aiming to combine mindful tourism with protection of the lagoon ecosystem.
