An opportunity to review the work accomplished in 2025 and look ahead to the key strategic directions guiding the Foundation's commitment in 2026

On March 14, 2026, the Venice Sustainability Foundation (VSF) celebrated its fourth anniversary and published its 2025 Activity Report—a document outlining the work accomplished over the past year and looking ahead to the strategic directions guiding the Foundation's commitment in 2026.

Four years after its establishment, VSF has steadily consolidated its role as a platform for collaboration among institutions, research bodies, and the business community, driving initiatives, relationships, and dialogue around environmental, economic, social, and cultural sustainability.

The year 2025 was one of notable activity and significance. Marking the start of the Foundation’s second three-year cycle, the renewal of its governance bodies coincided with further institutional consolidation, built on the continuity of its established path. Concurrently, initiatives across the Foundation’s various activity areas continued to advance seamlessly.

Among the year's most significant achievements were the second edition of the Sustainability Biennale (Biennale della Sostenibilità) titled “Urbs et Civitas” and the exhibition “Intelligent Venice: The Oldest City of the Future,” a Special Project by VSF for Biennale Architettura 2025. Alongside these major events, steady progress was made across all thematic areas: from energy and environmental transition to innovation, and from the knowledge cluster and housing to sustainable tourism, sustainable finance, social inclusion, and a culture of legality.

The Report documents a multifaceted journey that reinforces VSF’s mission to connect diverse expertise, stakeholders, and projects under a shared vision of integrated sustainability. Throughout 2025, the Foundation further strengthened its international profile and its network of members, partners, and collaborators.

Guiding VSF's work since its inception is a clear conviction: Venice is not merely a heritage site to be preserved, but a contemporary living laboratory capable of generating visions, practices, and solutions with far-reaching relevance.

Looking ahead, 2026 opens with new opportunities. Particularly prominent is the ongoing development of an Integrated Urban Sustainability Target Scenario for Venice and its surrounding area—a shared framework built with members and local stakeholders to guide priorities, tools, and future development trajectories.

This anniversary also provides an opportunity to extend sincere gratitude to everyone contributing to the Foundation’s journey: members, partners, collaborators, and the VSF staff, whose daily commitment ensures the continuity and quality of this work.
