With a signature between the President of Venice Sustainability Foundation (VSF), Renato Brunetta, the Mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, and the President of the Fondazione La Biennale di Venezia, Roberto Cicutto, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed today, April 27, for collaboration in establishing the first "Sustainability Biennale".
A historic moment, formalized in one of the most remarkable settings in the world, the Procuratie Vecchie in St. Mark's Square, headquarters of the Foundation.
The parties emphasized their shared commitment to collaborate in creating a distributed event that, from June 1 to November 25, addresses the theme of sustainability through the MOSE best practice.
The inaugural edition of the Biennale of Sustainability events will focus on three distinct interpretations of the technological system that has protected the vulnerabilities of the Venetian lagoon since 2020.
MOSE is thus viewed as: an engineering solution capable of effectively defending the city and its lagoon from mean sea level rise; a protection enabling socio-economic development planning across a territory previously threatened by tidal events; and a tool to gain the necessary time to conceive (and implement) new protective solutions when future sea level rise eventually exceeds its operational capacity.
